Hi ! I just ordered a white tail bristle tooth after doing a bunch of research and tests ! made sure I had plenty of food stocked, water is good parameters, no other tangs, and all that. after reading they will eat nori, sometimes mysis, and sometimes flake food, as well as the algae in the tank I thought i’d be good !
BUT I just read a thread of someone who had gone through 3 of them from what seemed to be not eating :(
this was kind of a splurge for me as i’m mostly a budget reefer but decided to treat myself to one of my (more affordable) dream fish.
The Tang should arrive on the 9th so I have a lil under two weeks.
I have some algae but not a lot in the tank, but have flakes, nori, frozen food, etc all ready to go !
should I be as worried as I am about this ? :(
OR is there any way I can make algae grow faster ??
(I have a 100 G that has been running for abt 6-7 months with two clowns, bicolor blenny, diamond watchmen goby, and various hermits/snails).

I would try to not worry about it. Definitely don't try to increase algae growth in your tank. Chances are, if you get more to growth the tang won't like it anyway. So now you have an algae outbreak and a new fish lol

Mine ate fine from the very beginning and i dropped him right in. Always ate at the routine times (pellets and frozen). I watched him nip at little bits of algae here and there and maybe nori but not much, but he was always present at feeding times from the feeders. That's my experience.

Where did you order him from? If it's not coming until the 9th perhaps you can get some videos of it eating now and find out what foods it's used to currently

No way to say how that particular fish will react in your particular tank. I have a Tomini in a 2 month old tank. Eats live brine, frozen spirulina brine, mysis, mermaid's delight, emerald entree and Marine one mini pellets, so petty much everything I throw at it. It has eaten well since day one. I've put small sections of nori in the tank many times, on a clip, as well as banded to rock, and it has never touched the stuff, no idea why. As tank is young there are some diatoms, so I see the tang grazing that off rock. Mine is about 2" long, so young, and maybe eventually it will start seeing the nori as food. But I would not worry until you have a reason to.
