Hey everyone. Overnight I noticed our biggest frogspawn has lost a head and looks like BJD. Do I need to remove this one? This sucks as it was our favorite frog

I'm assuming I'll have to ditch the entire frogs pawn as I don't have any cutting toolsIt's unfortunately too blurry to really tell, but if you're able to gently remove the frag - give it the smell test. If it reeks to high Heaven - it's BJD and you need to address it ASAP.
Unless someone else can give you a positive identification (I can't tell from the image, sorry). If it looks puss-like, slimy and pink - there's a good chance it's BJD.I'm assuming I'll have to ditch the entire frogs pawn as I don't have any cutting tools
While pics are very fuzzy and need white lighting to clearly see but appears to be polyp bailout versus BJD and and often due to excessive flow or low calcium if below 380-400Hey everyone. Yeah its white flesh VS any brown on the coral. While pics are very fuzzy and need white lighting to clearly see but appears to be polyp bailout versus BJD and and often due to excessive flow or low calcium if below 380-400
With this coral- you must avoid the extremes- Extreme water flow and extreme light which can weaken them
Yep - bailout. Give it a dip or preferably a lugols iodine dip and set at mid tank under moderate light and water flowOK nevermind. With the blues off, it is more brown. Remove this entire coral you guys think? View attachment 2923068
That's actually where it's at and has been for coming on a yearYep - bailout. Give it a dip or preferably a lugols iodine dip and set at mid tank under moderate light and water flow
Parameters don't target one coral.I agree with above recommendations. Diseased heads can be fragged off to save the coral. Also note that BJD develops when corals are stressed and their immune systems collapse thus allowing BJD to get in. This typically means something is significantly off in your parameters causing your corals stress resulting in BJD.
If it's branching then just cut the branches. Lower the better to avoid damaging more flesh than necessary. If it's a wall shape, then you might need a bandsaw. But I think bone cutters would do OK there too just be careful. Leave some space between the edge of the death and the cut.Smell test didn't have anything bad. Any specifics on fragging a frog?
I will say we've had the oddest thing of only losing 1 or 2 corals at a time, and others growing like mad in the same tank.Parameters don't target one coral.
Neither does BJD although euphyllia seem the most susceptible. Been through it twice now with torches, frogs and hammers.Parameters don't target one coral.
