Is this Aiptasia?

Tonight I was looking at my tank and noticed this guy out of nowhere.

Ive never had Aiptasia before but I think it might be. I've never seen one of these before in my tank, I recently got a wall hammer (about a week ago) from a LFS.

Any advice on best options for an initial outbreak if it is Aiptasia?

It is a Aiptasia. filefish, bunch of peppermint shrimp, nudibranchs,Kleini butterfly and lemon juice injections are the methods to remove them if they r more in number.

Yes. I’ve used peppermint shrimp to control them .

Yes 100% Aptasia
I’ve had great success years ago with kalk paste .

I’ve had friends have success with aptasia-x, some not so it’s very hot or miss.

Peppermint shrimp are great but make sure you get true peppermints - sometimes they are mislabelled.

Filefish work if they get a taste for aptasia. Hopefully they will eat other foods otherwise they’ll starve once the aptasia is gone. I’ve been fortunate enough that mine took to pellets. I’ve read copper bands eat them, but much the same with filefish, hopefully they take to other foods like copepods or mysis.

I dont have any kalk and I'm not sure where I would source it in Australia.

I've only noticed this single one, would it be a good idea to pull the rock that its on out of the tank and dry it out, before it gets hold elsewhere?

You could do that but you’d have to let the rock dry for a long time to ensure that it has died, or you can cover the hole that it is in with glue and that should kill it, I’ve had success on two random aiptasia that have popped out on a couple of corals

If the rock is newly added, then yes, pull it out quickly. But the odds are, if you see one, there are probably others. That one looks like a big one, so its had time to grow, and move (leaving behind clones of itself,) and spawn.

Just a quick update, I pulled the rock out and hit it with vinegar with a hypodermic syringe, then i covered the area with super glue. Hopefully thats enough. I havent noticed any more in the tank, so touch wood I am all good.

The local home brew shop can source kalk so I'm going to grab some of that when they get it in stock next week.

So far I think so, I haven’t seen any new ones. Hopefully there’s nothing lurking where I can’t see it.
