Not familiar with Canon lineup yet the general consensus that 3.6-5.6 lenses are not the best quality lenses due to the restricted aperture and the lower quality glass in them compared to fixed f4 or 2.8 zooms. Also the wider range coverage means that the lense can't be good all the way , you'll notice some softness at one if the ends or both. Build quality won't be top noth as well. That's jot to say that it's a bad lense as the flexibility and coverage are its strong points, with some good technique you should get quality pictures with it ..
