Hey guys,
I am currently running an Eshopps S200 protein skimmer (older model) in the sump of my Waterbox 90.3 system (60 gal dt + 20 gal sump). The tank is fairly new (approx 2 months running). I currently have 4 small fish (2 clowns, royal gramma, and longnose hawkfish), 2 big BTAs, a Hammer coral frag and a small Kenya tree. All livestock is doing very well. Tank was started with 10+ year old liverock from my older 125 gal tank.
Parameters are good. NO3 15-18 ppm, PO4 0,08 - 0,14 ppm. Both with Hanna testers.
The problem is that the skimmer is not skimming anything. I did not empty the cup once since having started the tank. The skimmer was producing a lot of nasty skimmate in my old 125 gal tank stocked with several big fish.
So I am thinking, maybe the skimmer is throwing too much air/water considering the light bioload I now have in the system. Of course, I will add more fish and corals in the future, but I am a little concerned about the current situation. Please see attached video and photos.
Should I get a newer and smaller skimmer ?
Thanks !
