Keep it from getting irritated.
You got to find our why if anything. Sometime new condition will cause it to retract a little until it acclimated.

I would clean the shell with a stiff brush. Might be some hydroids or similar that you can’t see bothering the mantle. It shouldn’t be retracted like that at all. What fish do you have and what’s the history of the clam?
