This would be my third tank overall. I started with a 60 cube, upgraded to a 120 and got a 180 on a killer deal. I just recently moved out of state and brought the 120 and 180 with dual overflow. Going to sell my 120 and get a different tank, hopefully the red sea peninsula tank. But for right now I am going to set up the 180.
When I bought the 180 it came with everything the guy had since he was moving out of country. So here is a list of items I will be using with the 180 system:
180 dual overflow tank
Fluval SP6
Trigger Emerald 39 sump
Reef Octopus Classic 8" Skimmer
Tunze ATO
For lighting I can use the two black boxes it came with or use my AP700 that I won in a raffle, kinda leaning to the AP700. I also have some plywood stained underneath the tank for weight distribution and in where the sump is. So far I have the stand made, and my water changing station set up. Unfortunately my water PSI isn't good enough to start making RO/DI water, so while I wait for that I'm going to plumb my tank but I have a couple questions.
1. My return pump (fluval SP6) has return lines that are 1 1/4". I have colored plumbing that is 1", I've read that your overflow plumbing should match what your return pump lines are. Will there be an issue with me reducing the return lines to 1" and keep my plumbing for the tank 1"?
2) The overflow method I would really like to go for is the bean animal method. I know that the method is supposed to a C2C drain like symptom. I was thinking in one overflow have the full siphon and emergency line and in the other overflow have the wet siphon with the return line. Will this work essentially and still have quiet plumbing into the sump? I will have gate valves beneath them of course, just curious if I'm going to have to constantly fine tune one or if I'm setting my self up for failure later on. Or should I just go with what I've seen around and just do dual herbie method with return line over the back?
Feel free to ask questions about my build or follow along.
