Hello, Happy New Year ! My first question is... who uses iodine dips, when, and is it necessary...
The second question is to add strontium or not... at the moment we have a duncan frag, acan, and 2 trumpets... they all seem to be growing and doing well..... also in the tank are a small yellow tail damsel, a green chromis and a stripped damsel, couple shrimp, snails and crabs...

I wouldn't worry about dosing strontium...focus on calcium and magnesium if you are hard set to dose something.

With only a few corals you likely wouldn't have to dose anything if you are using a reef salt as they are probably not consuming enough calcium to warrant dosing for replacement.

The only time I have ever iodine dipped is when a coral has a infection or bacteriainfection like blown jelly.. I can not remember the last I did a iodine dip.

I have added iodine though as a supplment from time to time and iron but I keep goniopora and feel they are needed for them.. I now use a 3 part from seachem that has both in.

strontium I have never really added or tested for unless it was part of another additive.

Honestly just use a good two part and test for alk, calcium and magnesium.

Shouldn't dose any additive unless you are testing and notice a deficiency. As for the iodine dip, with most corals, but especially zoas and palys I always dip prior to placing a new purchase in my tank. Unless its coming from the tank of someone I know and trust. Failing to dip is a good way to introduce problematic invertes like red flatworms, coral eating pods, and various worms into your aquarium.
