I'm sure this has been discussed before but I wanted to get everyone's take on the intentional growth of GHA in your refugium. I have been growing chaeto pretty successfully since I started my tank, the only pain is that GHA also grows in force along with it. Because I've been lazy the GHA is now taking over the chaeto and every wall of the refugium. I'm half considering just letting it go nuts and serve as my nutrient export. Thoughts?
Pros:
- GHA is doing the same thing as the chaeto with respect to nutrient export.
- GHA is obviously easier to grow an less temperamental than other macro.
- My copepod population is insane right now with thousands in the refugium.
Cons:
- When it starts growing long it can block the bubble trap, which decreases the flow to the return chamber, which triggers my ATO.
- I'm a little nervous about it getting into my display.
- Harvesting leads to removal of a lot of copepods (more so than chaeto which I give a little shake in the DT to get the pods out)
