I’m new to aquariums, and a friend who has been in the hobby awhile gave me a hermit crab. I can’t decide exactly what type it is.
admittedly not the best photo, will post more if I can get one

Dark red, almost brown
I've got about a dozen different types in my tanks and it doesn't resemble any of them (arguably I don't have the best image for comparison). It appears to be in a conch shell so I'm guessing it's a fair size?

Does this more closely resemble it? This is a red leg (not scarlet) hermit crab. If so, reef safe and an excellent algae eater and addition to your cleanup crew.
