I think my clownfish might have brook

I have a 36 gallon tank with 7 fish. The last time I added something to the tank was 38 days ago, I added some coral and anemone.

Yesterday, I noticed some very faint white spots. Today, it looks like the spots are more pronounced. The skin also looks kinda faded and dull. I tried to take some pics, but it's not noticeable enough to see in pictures. It's also less noticeable with white lights on. It looks similar to the pics in the main brook post but not as bad. It doesn't look like the velvet or ich pics

None of the other fish seem to have anything and the clownfish is currently acting normal. Should I immediately run out and get a QT tank and start treating? Do I treat all the fish?

Pics and a video are needed for an accurate diagnosis. Assuming disease, all fish should be treated and the tank should be fallowed.

These particular pictures are fuzzy but previous pics show brook. The heavy presence of Mucus is significant, and starts at the facial area as well as gills and spreads across the body producing lesions as it progresses often confused with ich and can turn into secondary bacteria. Other symptoms will be lethargic behavior, refusing to eat and heavy breathing from the mucus.
Typical treatment is a formalin solution is mixed with in a separate container with either fresh or saltwater. Start with a quick dip in the formalin at a higher concentration then performing treatment in a prolonged bath of formalin base at a lower concentration in a quarantine tank. The longer the fish are exposed to the formalin treatment the more effective it will be at eliminating this issue.
If a formalin solution is not available for immediate use, temporary relief can be achieved by giving the fish a FW bath or dip in water same temperature as display tank. Even though this treatment will not cure the disease, it can help to remove some of the parasites, as well as reduce the amount of mucus in the gills to assist with respiration problems.
Treatment is best done in a QT tank using either quick cure (more effective but now harder to find) or Ruby Rally Pro. Ruby takes a little longer and initial treatment generally takes 2-3 days to really start going to work.
With the advanced stage of this- I recommend immediate quarantine of all inhabitants and leaving display without fish for 4-6 weeks.
A quarantine system if you dont have one can be as simple as a starter tank kit from walmart which has most of the essentials

heres a video that shows it pretty well. Looking at the video, now i fear its velvet. I feel like it doesn't look as "spotty" in person. Does velvet come in on fish and coral? I haven't added any fish in since before Christmas

So, what's the course of action? I noticed my blenny is missing. I thought he looked funny last week when i looked in the morning with the lights off but I chalked it up to just looking funny with the blue lights off. He seemed like he looked normal with the blues on.


So, that leaves me with 2 clowns, 3 pajama cardinals and a firefish


I need to go buy a QT tank. I assume the ruby rally won't get here until next week. If I freshwater dip the clown and then put all the fish in a 20 gallon tank with salinity at like 1.015, would that be good for the time being?

Do you have any stores nearby where you can get the med?
A freshwater dip will help buy some time, but I personally don’t see how running a lower salinity will help. It won’t so much do stop brook as far as I know and will only stress the fish out.

I live in a major city (Portland, Oregon). I doubt petco or petsmart would have it. Would the salt water fish stores have it on hand? I'll try calling them in a little bit.


Is this a case that all the fish have it but only the clown is currently showing signs?

I would expect a lfs to carry it, it’s a pretty common med.
Brook is known to infect clowns first, so it’s not surprising that they are the only ones showing it (for now).
