I just fragged my wall hammer in an attempt to save it

I my last thread I inquired about my wall hammer losing tissue and I appreciate all the responses with great suggestions. It was losing tissue in the middle section and it was spreading outward as shown.

I removed it from the aquarium and made a Dremel cut on both sides of the dying part and then used a chisel and hammer to cleanly break it along the line I cut. Here is the middle dead portion below.

I then soaked the end pieces in tank water mixed with an iodine coral dip. I then spread super glue on the newly cut edges and let them fully cure in a container of aquarium water.

Below are the healing pieces as of this morning. It's not fully extended, but at least I didn't outright kill it yet.

I appreciate all the suggestions on what steps to take and now it's just a waiting game to see how it does.

seems you've done what you could've done in this situation. just continue monitoring and re-dip in iodine every other day or weekly to ensure it heals well without succumbing to bacterial infection.

This was the exact method I used and after a few days both pieces were ok. Looking at the original pic you probably had a week or less before you lost everything. I would have done the same thing, this is a Hail Mary move to save the coral. I wish you luck, you have a good chance of survival at this point. Keep us updated !

Looking good. I purchased some lenses for my phone so the pictures don't look so washed out in blue and randomly took this picture of it Wednesday afternoon.

Still playing around with the lenses though...I'm mediocre at best at taking pictures.

I have an AI Prime 16HD using the BRS recommended settings at 70% intensity. It looks good in person, but gives pictures a very blue hue. I just got an inexpensive set on Amazon that clip onto the phone from Reefing Art. It has a 15000K orange lens, a 20000K yellow lens, gradual lenses for both to adjust how blue/white the image is, a CPL lens, and a macro lens. I'll have to play around with them more. Here is another picture with the 15000K lens. To me it's too washed out...the gradual lenses are probably going to work out the best.

I stacked the orange and yellow lenses for this one under only royal blue lights after lights out and like the contrast.

I use the reefin art lens and my main tank is a photon led. I have a nano with a prime. They don’t photograph the same. I will get my light settings and you will likely need to manually adjust the prime for photos

Typically blues only, no other colors with the orange lens works best

Hard to know but typically a week without recession post fragging is a good benchmark.

Great! I didn't want to make any assumptions about it too early, but it appears to be a success.

Mine was too. And was looking good each day. And then one died and then the other started to die. And I couldn’t figure it out. And I lost both. None of it made sense.

And then a few days later…

I caught my cardinal fish hovering by another hammer. Suspiciously. But not doing anything but stare at me. I backed away like 10-15 feet. And then..he started biting it over and over! Suddenly it all made sense how my several year old bomb proof hammer died. This fish decided to start munching on it when ever I wasn’t around. Feeding triple portion of food didn’t help. It was like a compulsion not a hunger situation.

I setup another tank and planned to remove him and over a few days I saw him biting other euphyllia and then he started with my holy grail torch and that night I was like you’re gone! And captured him and moved to another tank.

I wish I knew earlier what was going on
