Hello R2R, long time lurker, first time poster. I must admit though, I am a total coral junkie. I may come from humble beginnings, but I intend to create a beautiful collection of the most colorful and unique corals I can find. I am also a fan of uncommon fish in the trade, but the coral will always be my 1st love.
A little bit about myself and my reefing experience, I am a finance major working for a small aerospace company. But that's the boring stuff, now onto the reefing:
My place of employment started a 100gal saltwater FOWLR tank about 5 years ago, and I thought it was cool, so I watched from afar. But, then they started brining in the coral. Cyphastrea, Bubble corals, and a prized rainbow trachy we kept for a few years. These were the first corals that caught my eye and get me interested in the hobby. I however had no involvement with this tank outside of looking at it. A couple of years later, they upgraded to a custom 210 gal peninsula for the main foyer. This thing was stocked to the brim, a full blown mixed reef with nearly everything you could imagine. As time passed, the original individual who started the tank stepped down from taking care of it, it shuffled through a few different caretakers, before ultimately ending up in my hands. I had been slowly learning about the reefing process from watching those before me care for the tank, and when I was ready I dived in head first. I've been caring for the 210gal for about a year now, and I couldn't be happier with it as things have been thriving, but I cant take all the credit, as everything for my success was already set up. We have a very wide variety of both basic and collectors coral of all different types, a true mixed reef. We've been through our fair share of losses too, as no one is immune to that. That prized trachy I mentioned before was nipped to death by a few angel fish when we moved it from the 100 to the 210. But life goes on, and the reef continues to grow.
I've started a 20gal LPS tank at my apartment to scratch the reefing itch when I am at home, and at the moment this is filled with zoa, acans, an australophyllia wilsoni, and perhaps one of my favorite corals so far, the rather uncommon australomussa. I will post a tank build thread for my 20 gal soon, and perhaps one for the work 210 if if i get the time.
Again, Hello R2R and Happy Reefing!
