Ok, I’ve had reef tanks since 1988, so feel stupid asking this, but, I hear over and over from people saying I feed 1 cube a day, I feed 2 cubes per day…. Exactly how big is a cube? I use Rods food, it comes in a 8” X 4” flat sheet. Please let me in on this!

When most people talk about cubes, they talk about frozen packages like this, with each section "one cube". Picture is an example of frozen mysis.

Different manufacturers, different sizes.
1/2” cubed
3/4” x 1/2” cubed.
3/4” x 3/4” cubed.

For the flat pack, I cut 3/4” x 1/4” cubes, 14 at a time, for 2 daily feeds, hold in the freezer.

See this is what I was thinking… people talk about cubes as if they are only one size, but there is no standard from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Do most people go by the 1/2” X 1/2”?

As far as I know there are 2 different sizes (which, admittedly I never really measured).

For the big cubes - I feed 2 for my 206g tank.
For the small ones - I feed 3.

Good question.
Depends on who and how many your feeding.

Each feeding of mine are 5 different cubes, so minor changes in size cause no issue.

It would depend on availability in the local area.
It really doesn’t matter to me as regardless of size, I feed only that equivalent (or loosely close).

Flat packs are less expensive but less convenient.

PE Mysis in flat packs are better for me than the cubes as the food item is larger.

In the beginning, I was cutting cubes in half.

For awhile now I will take 3 cubes per packet. I use around 6 types and rods also.
I put the cubes/rods in bowl and mix them all together. I then use an empty cube packet and fill it up. Back in the fridge to frozen again.
This feeds the tank as well as the fish.
I use one a day mixed in with 5 regular cubes a day currently.
