On another side note, post water change I love seeing my acropora doing so well in a new tank. That PE though!

Coral Bleaching

All of my coral are doing good except for apparently my birdsnest. I noticed yesterday that I see some bleaching at the base, but the odd part is it's showing full polyp extension which leaves me confused...

Do you know why a coral would show full PE while bleaching?

Here are the rest of my coral below, again all very happy:

I’ve only ever had one birdsnest and I do recall the inner branches doing that, however, that may have been more from lack of light since it was a full colony.
At least your acro is looking perfectly happy!

My PAR on the frag rack should be at minimum 250~. I've been hesitant on putting these frags on the rock because of the GHA everywhere. Perhaps flow maybe?

I’m running my full photoperiod MINUS the 2-bulbs for full daylight….for now. But I have my whitest bulbs on that 2-bulb channel. This may help with your GHA, a little. I’m still getting some GHA too, but not as bad.

Here are my bulbs below:
  • ATI Blue Plus
  • ATI Coral Plus
  • ATI Purple Plus
  • ATI Blue Plus
  • ATI Coral Plus
  • ATI Actinic
  • ATI Blue Plus
  • Giesemann Powerchrome Tropic
Coral Plus is the "whitest" bulb in my setup. I could swap both of them into my 2nd channel which is 2 bulbs and do something similar.

I’m at the exact same stage as you right now. I didn’t do any of that, I was 100% Marco rocks and bare bottom and my XLM took even longer than yours.
I’m going to try Brightwell CLEAN next to try and entirely avoid the ugly stage.
How long did yours take? I also used dry rock, dry sand. Ammonia was 0 4 days ago and my nitrites are still over 1+ on my Red Sea kit.

Mike took a long time. I think around 40-days, maybe more. I have it in my build thread. It was the nitrites that took forever to bottom out for me.

That’s where I’m at. Driving me crazy I’m on day 25 I believe. Did you just let it ride? I was thinking about maybe introducing some additional bacteria in the form of MB7 but not sure if that will screw things up.

Don’t do that. If anything use CLEAN. You’re not supposed to use MB7 until like 6-months.
I have the dates all documented here.

To be fair I used MB7 during my process as well and the cycle finished < 30 days.

Should the CLEAN help with the nitrite issue? I read your thread and man I hope mine doesn’t take another 30 days! But if it does, it is what it is!
