Hello Rabb.D Here

I have setup a nano reef tank some few months ago but now that things are progressing well i am planning to setup a quarantine tank both for coral and fish the tank size will be 27liters for both since I have little space.
But I have come across a delima which is how do I keep my quarantine tank cool. Already have a chiller which is used for the display tank so I cannot afford another chiller..the ambient temperature is around 30 degrees celcuis. And I realize the ambient temperature is too hot for corals or am I mistaken and I am also thinking of using an aquarium fan too keep my quarantine tank cool... will fans works to keep the temperature down and to how many degrees can it push the temperature downand if not what are my options.

I’ve used fans as a cooling mechanism. I’ve even attached them to submersible thermostats to turn them on and off for better temperature control.

The trouble is, fans cool by evaporation. That means you need to keep up with RO additions to offset the water lost. Also, in humid environments, there is less evaporation and therefore less cooling. The fans also rust pretty quickly, and they tend to distribute some fine salt mist which can damage the room.

The most temperature drop down I’ve gotten has been about 6 degrees F.

I use a computer fan to cool a small nano beta tank. It drops the temp to 25C that approx 3C below ambient. It is just a single fan 5" i think by memory. As mentioned you will need an ATO to keep salinity stable.. I use the computer fans as they are only a couple of $$ and easy to swap when needed.

But have u tried using fans to keep corals in nano tank I'm curious of whether it's sufficient for reef salt water and coral quarantine tank besides using for a betta fish

I have (2) 180g frag tanks that are outside in the backyard. The Temperature gets to 118 deg. I only use fans to keep the tanks cool. The fans work great up to about 105 keeping the tanks at 80 deg. Over 105 the temp does slowly start to rise. But we have a shade cloth that extends over the tanks at 103 and without the sun hitting the tanks it's no problem for the fans to keep tank temps at 80deg even when the outside air is 38 deg higher.

We evaporate alot of water. On a day with that kind of temperature differential, we will replace more than 75g of water in a day. Most of the water replaced is Kalkwasser.
