How to replace female clown fish and keep the peace

My female clownfish jumped out of the tank after i removed my net and forgot to put it back for like 3 hours. Now I want to replace it and have the male mate with a new clown fish, but i am afraid if i just add a new clown fish, my male will get aggressive. Is there any way to introduce a new clown fish in the tank and keep the peace? My mated pair have been in my tank for the past 3 years, they are the Ocellaris type of clownfish...

Each fish is different so there's no real right answer... I would get a larger breeder/acclimation box that has a center divider, put one on each side for a week, then remove the divider and see how it goes, then if all is well, release to tank.

So if you want your male to remain a male, you will need to add a clownfish bigger then him. The bigger clown will turn itself into a female. They all start off as males with the biggest one in the pack turning into a female

My success has been acclimation box for 10-14 days and then adding the male to the box which is easy to remove if they dont get along

Got it! Thank you for the ideas! Now i was thinking: should I give the male sometimes to before I add a new clownfish since the female one recently died, to let him feel "single" again, or can I try to introduce the new clownfish immediately?

The one time I lost my female, I just added a smaller clown and let the old male turn female. I figured he would enjoy being dominant for a while.

If you add a bigger clown that one most likely would turn female after some battling. Add one the same size, issues. Add one half his size he probably will turn female
