Hello guys/gals,

I have access to Calcium formate(98%) purity for $10AUD per Kilogram and was wondering if it was possible to make this into a balanced 1 part dosing solution for Calcium, alkalinity and magnesium at a similar strength to Randy's Diy 2 part.

I also have a few questions in regards to this.
Is there any down sides to dosing Calcium formate into a tank?
What chemical would I need to add the magnesium to the solution?
is the purity of what I have access to high enough?

Thank you in advanced

The calcium formate is already close to balanced for calcium and alk. It’s just a little heavy in the calcium. Tropic Marin sells this as carbo calcium.

My diy recipe #1 has an alk potency of 1900 meq/L (5300 dKH) so we need 1900 mM formate or 1.9 M. Calcium formate has 2 formations per mole and a molecular weight of 130 g/mole. Thus, a solution of 123.5 g/L has a concentration of 1.9 M and matches my diy #1.

I’ll give a magnesium recommendation in a bit.

Thank you Randy it is much appreciated.

when it comes to the magnesium I have both Magnesium Chloride and magnesium sulphate can I add either of these to the solution with out causing problems?
