I'm trying to decide what kind of filtration system to use on my 40 gallon breeder I want to use a sump but have no Idea what the cost of it should or could be I don't want it to be more than 15 gallons. And I don't know how it works do you have to drill holes in the tank?
Please explain how a sump works and how much it cost.

So many variables, how skilled are you at DIY?

75g DT with 30tall sump, NO DRILLING AT ALL, all water goes Over the Back of the tanks, custom built plumbing by myself.

I paid $120 for the brand new 75g tank at Petco on sale, everything else I had laying around except some PVC pipe, I had less than $200 into the entire tank, before I bought Lights and wave makers.

Basically the sky is the limit, you are only held back by your imagination and desire to make it happen. Good Luck.

If not drilled, a HOB (hang on back) refugium is your best bet. Used ones show up on R2R marketplace
