I recently got a yellow watchman goby and a randal pistol shrimp for my 230g tank. They were even placed in the same bag, but after adding them to the tank they separated. The randal is super tiny and is hidden inside the hole of on rock, so i am wondering, will these ever pair up in a large tank?

Depends:)

In one tank I was lucky. We got a yellow watchman and after several months we got a pistol shrimp. I added it to the tank trying to get near the goby’s home and ended up dropping the pistol right into the watchman’s burrow. They have been best of buds since.

The other tank we had a goby. Later added a pistol and I’m unsure if they ever found each other. I occasionally hear what might be the pistol shrimp but not certain- could be noisy snails and recently we lost track of the goby as he gets pushed around having to relocate every couple months

They will find each other eventually. Probably when you least expect it. It’s like they sense each other or something. Maybe the goby’s hear the popping and know or follow the sound but every time I get a pair they always find each other. Sometimes it just takes a bit. Good luck.
