salt manufacturers almost always recommend mixing until the water reaches oxygen/carbon dioxide equilibrium.

since we have no way of measuring this, at least no easily available hobbyist measurement device, is it just a guess?

so, i'm just curious how long the average reefer premixes...

I start the day before the water change.
Fill the container with RO/DI water and heat it up to 75 degrees. Then I add salt and use a power head to aerate the whole batch and let it mix overnight.

The minimum for me is 4 hr. I normally let it mix for at least 12 hr. I use 5-gal buckets for my water changes. If I was mixing larger quantities in carboy or tub, 24 hr. would be my minimum. I'm also a firm believer in filing the container with RO/DI water and getting it circulating before adding the salt. I think it mixes better and faster if the water is moving at a good speed when the salt is added. And never add water to salt, always salt to water.

That's what I do. It looks like a whirlpool when I put the salt in and mixes much better imo.

I mix for at least 6+ hours, and then heat up to temp before actually doing the water change. Never had a problem.

In an emergency as quick as you can get it mixed. Non-emergency at least 24hrs.

Usually 8hrs with a heater. I've found thats what it normally takes till everything is completely dissolved and mixed up.
