And what tank size do they need? I've been in this hobby for a year now doing really well with clownfish. I'm very interested in seahorses and I'm wondering what's the smallest tank I can give and how hard is it to keep one as a beginner. I really like the dwarf seahorses.

I kept dwarfs for a year. Not exactly "difficult", more like extremely needy, maintenance every day, feeding everyday with live fresh hatched food. It's a ton of work on a small tank. My tank was a 3g, and while it worked, they didn't breed as it wasn't tall enough for their mating dance and egg transfer.

I kept them on sand with capulera and dragons breath macro with a few micro hermits and snails. Tank always looked dirty as any sort of traditional filter was too strong so I only used an air stone. I grew phyto in the water at an alarming rate and could never really get on top of that green water.

Pods loved it and the ponies were healthy and passed from age. But it certainly wasn't the display tank I wanted. I didn't replenish the population of dwarfs, so when the last died I shut down the tank.

I recently ordered some dwarf seahorses this is my first time trying dwarfs, before this all I kept was 2 lined seahorses in a 10 gallon tank. But, the dwarfs are arriving later today! :D
I am planning on keeping 5 of them in a 3 gallon tank, I think people recommend anything from 3 to 10 gallons…because any more than 10 gallons they can get lost in the tank….as for the care, you just have to be prepared to hatch baby brine shrimp every day. And stay on top of water changes.

How much does baby brine shrimp cost? And is it bad that I change my clownfish tank once a month?

Do you like vacations? If so, don't do dwarf seahorses :p

You hatch baby brine every day and need to make sure no leftover eaten food or anything. Tank needs frequent maintenance.

It's hard to leave even for a weekend if you need to freshly hatch food all the time and many daily tasks.

This is the main reason we don't see more of them IMO. They are dang cute though.

Water changes sorry for not saying that clearly!
Oh ok! I think that’s fine for clownfish….but you will probably have to change the seahorse water either weekly or Bi weekly. For my lined seahorses I changed the water weekly just because they were kind of messy eaters.
