Hi,
Just got back from vacation. Friend watching my 20 + year old 58 gallon reef tank. Have a yellow tang and royal gramma last 3 years. Added a peppermint shrimp a couple months ago. When got home noticed a hole in my brain coral. Have had brain 20 plus years. Peppermint shrimp cause it?
Also noticed green hitchhiker. Dangerous?
Last photo of brain right after water change. Looked better after an hour.

I’ve seen this more than once and generally due to tube worm
There are also filaments or sponge at the base

Depends on what's making them. Probably not a concern if the coral doesn't appear bothered.

A small hole in a stony coral, with the coral not looking irritated around it, is generally something harmless. Maybe a tubeworm, maybe a barnacle.

The green thing almost looks like a duncan coral. Got any pics under white lights?
