Hi
I’ve had this trachy for almost 7 months and it has been doing really well until a couple weeks ago when it didn’t puff up like usual.
I tried feeding it but it seemed to reject the food.
Pic no 1 is it now
Pic no 2 is it a few weeks ago
Parameters :
Nitrate : 5
Phos : 0.25 (im trying to reduce)
Calcium : 370
Magnesium : 1230
Alkalinity : 8.9
Salinity : 1.025

Phosphate is fine why are you trying to reduce? Calcium is low, magnesium is low - I would focus on these first. Also I know it’s out of your control but it will not be happy with a clown trying to host it.

Looking at it now - it honestly looks pretty good. I don’t see any signs of issues. Do feeding tentecles come out during evening / night?

It used to have feeder tentecles coming out but now it doesn’t

Did you change anything in your tanks feeding? If it is catching food they don’t inflate as much or extend tentacles due to the digestion process

How often did you feed? These guys can also over eat which leads to problems.

It looks just fine. My trachy gets moody and shrinks sometimes for a day or two, then gets back to normal. Most corals get moody sometimes. Its not a big deal unless it stays closed for several days.

I would say that it is being irritated by the clown or some other fish or coral.

I'd also double check that your salinity is correct as both Ca and Mg seem to be low.

Yes i’ve rechecked the salinity and it says 1.025.

Hey there!
I could really use some help with my welso/trachy coral as well, as it is having a similar issue.
I got it in mid June, so it's been a little over a month now, and I've noticed that it's starting to bleach for some reason. It's flesh still looks very healthy, plumping up beautifully, and happily eating its reef roids, but it's just losing its color. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Lighting: 30 par
Nitrate: 1, but I do dose NP+ daily
Phosphate: 0.03, but again, I do dose NP+
Alk: 10.7, can’t get it any lower, even with 20% water changes with natural salt water, so I stopped chasing numbers with Alk
Calcium: 500
Mg: 1380
Salinity: 35 ppm

30 par is very low. Can you post a pic ? Are you sure 30 is accurate?

I keep mine (and they do well) in 100-125 and that’s considered low par

If 30 is accurate I feel this is related to the color issues

Hello All,
Please see the attached photo.

The par ranges between 30-50 par, per my par meter. Per Tidal Gardens, they stated that these guys do better in low light… I also understand my nutrients are low, therefore I do dose daily, and feed my coral as well.

tidal gardens says low to medium and they keep them in 50-100

I always heard they should be kept around 100 par, mine are in 100-125

Reefchasers says 100-150

30 sounds very low to me, I would definitely aim for a spot that’s around 100 and low to medium flow

Will do, I’ll scoot it out slowly, out of the shade a bit, where it’ll be 100-150 par and I’ll let you guys know what happens next week.
Thank you.
