New and first salt water tank is a 60cm cube (roughly 2' cube, 56 gallons). I had planned to use a 20gallon tall for my sump, but am second guessing myself (after the 50% off sale unfortunately). I can get the 20 gallon tall in a stand that is almost perfectly sized for my cube. Am I better off just making an oversized cabinet to fit a 40 gallon sump with a refuge? Should I just oversize the stand - has anyone ever said I wish my sump was smaller? The 40 gallon tank is 36" wide - how much extra room should I allocate? Going to use a 80/20ish T slot aluminum frame-just need to figure out the dimensions.

I am planning on putting a roller filter in the sump - will need to figure out just how much room it needs and see if it will actually fit in the filter sock compartment of the Jax Racks kit I am thinking about - or if it is cost effective to get the kit customized.

On a side note - had my worse fish kill ever today. Over 30 fish dead and counting (out of probably more than 100). 1000 gallon outdoor tank. Between a hard rain yesterday (with a significant temp drop) and a hot day today... Rain stirred it up and clogged the pump. Did not notice till about 10pm. Pump is up and running again. Hopefully getting some O2 into the water and knocking the amonia from the kill off down. Tank has been up for 8 years, first time for everything I guess. I have run it weeks without a pump - but apparently never during a heat spike like we got the last 24hrs.

IMO bigger is a bit on the better side. And that goes for the stand as well. I wish I had more room

Things slowly coming together. Ditched the 20 tall sump idea - will use that tank for something else eventually (it was 1/2 price). Caught a different half price sale on a 40 breeder. Was having trouble contacting Jax Racks - wanted to get a custom refugium kit from them - the one on their site was for 4" filter socks and I did not think I could get the roller filter in the compartment. While I never got a reply from them, one built for 7" socks showed up on their ebay store - it should work.

Next task is getting the stand built.
