Hi. Just wanted to ask what these white little things are on top of the urchin?
PS. Halloween hermit decided to make the urchin bald. And we’re not sure if its still alive. This afternoon, upon checking, the white little rock like things are already there.

likely sand.
Since the incident with regard the hermit chomping off every single spikes, we actually placed it on that quarantine box for monitoring cuz we thought it’s dead. It hasn’t touched the sand since then. Then next afternoon, it had those so it is not probably sand.

they’re generally nocturnal. it may have picked it up while you were asleep. they’ll pick anything up to place over themselves to feel “safe”. part of the reason some hobbyists buy 3d printed “hats” for them :)

It might have been holding them lower or on the bottom so you didnt notice, and has since moved them up as cover like @shakacuz said.

I have bad news for you... This is eggs on top of the urchin. They do this when they think they are about to die. I am sorry for your loss
