hey guys so I used to have a really nice gsp that was extending all over my tank for about 2 years however 3 months ago it stopped opening and eventually died. I kept buying new frags of gsp and none of them opened and eventually died. I have zoa, mushroom, and duncan coral at the moment and theyre all doing great my question is what is the reason for this could it be my ph needs to be higher to 8.3? thank in advance.

my water parameter are
alk: 10
calcium:430
ph:7.8
phosphate: .02
nirate: 10
salinity: 1.025

If you find what ever is killing it, I'll buy it and pay for shipping.

Possibly sponges, I keep mine on an island and often trim it, sponges that look like salt creep/ white skeleton looking.
I dip mine in hydrogen peroxide every so often (outside my aquriam) give it a good scrub with toothbrush, it comes backs

When you say "die" what's happening? any pictures?
sorry i dont have any pics but i would see white cloudy smoke then the tip of the gsp would slowly desinigrate and the whole thing would just break so i take them out before it raises my ammonia level its been happening the past 3 times i bought gsp. Could it be my ph is not that hight its 7.8 should i raise it to 8.3?

Does it grow on the sand? Was thinking about putting mine on a island on my new tank or have like 10% bare bottom on one side and put it on the bare bottom

It's generally like a carpet base, purple in colour, from my experience it just grows outwards, so I would assume it will grow outward even on a 'bare bottom'

That does sound weird, PH shouldn't really matter for GSP at least, you can grow this stuff in pretty much anything

Are your other corals doing just fine?

Could you have something rusting in your sump/AIO chamber?

sorry what is icp im still fairly new to reef keeping lol and how do i check for deficient major or minor trace elements?

There's a couple of examples, but there are other companies that also do ICP testing. You buy the test kit (tubes for put you water sample in), mail in the water sample, and get a report back. The test measures almost all water parameters, to include major and minor trace elements so you can see if any are deficient. Your at home test look ok, so there isn't much to go on. Triton for example, measures 42 things.
