I have a CR44 sump, I really would like to add a automatic filter roller especially since the sales are still happening. So I have a second hand glass cages tank that is 72” x 25-1/2 x 22 tall. So I believe 160-180G. I would like to use a reef mat 500 or 1200 but I feel the 1200 might be way too much overkill. My other option is a clarisea SK5000. Only reason I’m considering larger is to use less of the roll at a time and I’ve read some people have had success cutting out the filter sock section of the sump without any issues. I have a NYOS 160 and idk if I will run a fuge yet. So what do you guys think?

I originally went with a ReefMat 500 on my Red Sea 750XXL (200-gallons total), but found I was changing the fleece roll every week due to my very heavy bio load. I also run a Nyos Quantum 160 skimmer. You'll probably want the ReefMat 1200 to get the extra time between fleece rolls; I go almost a month now and the larger rolls actually save me about 15% in terms of overall cost on the fleece.

I’m doing 100 gallon tank with maybe 20 gallons of water in sump, you think the mat 500 would be a good fit n last me a while

Definitely. Unless you have a larger (150+ gallon) tank or insane bio-load - the 500 will be more than adequate (in addition to having a much smaller footprint than the 1200).
