So I think I know the answer, so more me venting
my 55 gallons of fresh saltwater, may have got a tiny amount of store bought live sand in it , ( 1-2 tsp) as I used a glass to scoop the sand then rinsed it in the water scooping out some water for my pico tank. Had a hunch as it smelled like tank and not new water and voila ammonia is 1.0
Now what, nothing in their other than the sides and water column to cycle , not desperate for a water change but think I gotta dump it or wait too long.
Does the live sand have ammonia, figured was just seeded as the sand does not smell
I have 10 pounds dry rock and bottle of biospira still, but
I won’t rely on this or dr Tim’s,for quick use. I have two small tanks I used drops of the ammonia as per direction and their stuff and still nh4 of 3 after a week and barely any nitrites or nitrates. Granted they will cycle much faster, but not instant
My main tank could likely handle it but why stress it.
Chalk this up to a learning exp to not interchange tools/containers
