The magnesium ion concentration in the ocean usually falls between 1200ppm and 1300ppm, while in seawater tanks it is sometimes maintained slightly higher (1200ppm~1500ppm) to increase buffering. In addition to making it more difficult to maintain KH and calcium, too low concentrations of magnesium ions have also been found by some players to affect the health of specific types of corals (such as some Montipora).

The concentration of phosphate in the ocean is mostly below 0.01ppm (here it is mainly calculated based on PO4 3-), but just like nitrate, various concentrations are often seen in seawater tanks, and most people The more acceptable range is roughly below 0.1ppm.

KH in natural seawater is about 6~7dKH. However, everyone may have different habits at what data to maintain the KH of the tank. Generally, the more common data is between 7~11dKH. In addition to slowing down calcification and photosynthesis, too low KH will also make the pH more likely to change. On the contrary, higher KH can accelerate the efficiency of photosynthesis and calcification, making corals and other organisms grow faster. However, since both biotic and abiotic calcification rates will increase, in addition to KH consumption, you must also pay attention to the consumption of calcium and calcium carbonate. precipitation. In addition, many players have reported that if the nutrient concentration in the tank is low, high KH (>9) may cause Acropora and other corals to peel off the branch tips, but the mechanism is not yet fully understood, but if you are worried, you can also Just keep KH in the range of 7~8dKH.
