Somebody please help me. I have a marineland c360 filter has been running for 6 months now. It started leaking yesterday slowly. I checked the gasket. Everything is fine. I put a little bit of vegetable oil and Vaseline on the seal and closed it up. Everything seemed to be fine but then started leaking again about an hour ago. I can't keep losing all this water. The filter drains out almost half of my tank if I let it continue. Anybody have any quick solutions on how to fix this until I can get an entire new gasket in? Hoping that will work

That is a HUGE leak to lose half your tank volume!!

Replacement gasket is the solution, and sounds like you're already going that route.

This is a terrible idea, but this is all I got... Do you have an auto-top off for your tank?

I would have a container under my marineland filter that is leaking (because I wouldn't want water all over my stand and/or floor, I had one already that lived as part of my 'filter' to just hold canister. Change your ATO configuration so as your tank volume goes down, have your ATO pump back up the leaking canister contents back into your tank.

Reason it is a terrible solution is it does nothing for the ACTUAL problem... but anything I can think to shore up leak location really will just shift pressure points to another portion of canister seal and likely just leak from new spot... BUT, if you've a spare bit of neoprene around (I happen to have) and IF you were willing to cut it and IF it seemed like right size, then perhaps you might be able to fashion a replacement gasket...

But I'd be moving my ATO from my RO reservoir to my canister tote where its catching water and send the leaked water back to tank... AND if you don't have an ATO (because otherwise if you lost 1/2 tank volume to leak, you have just swung salinity horribly bad!! Then this could be time to get ATO to help maintain salinity.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I appreciate the reply and the help. You gave me an idea by taking my extra water pump and running it from the container that's containing the water from overflowing and pump it back into the tank. This would happen now, I feel like the filter knows I'm setting up a refugium lol

PS - in the canister tote that holds the currently leaking canister filter, add a ... had to go look up actual name because I call it our Water Dog... Watchdog Water Alarm - any home improvement store has it - gives you a heads up at the first sign of measurable leak (but maybe you already also have one of those) Mine squeals and family comes running... then they chase me down depending which one is squealing (on water maker RO/DI into holding tank, everyone has been trained to turn off water into RO/DI)

Use care you don't pump faster than water leaking or you can burn out that pump. Its why I thought of an ATO because it senses water level and turns pump on/off/on/off as needed

Loving your creativity and hoping you soon get gasket replacement!

Here are the replacement gaskets you need.

Never ever use vaseline on O rings it will cause them to shrink over time which can lead to leaks or make leaks worse. Use silicon O ring lubricant. You can get this at the plumbing supply at most hardware stores or you can get an aquarium-specific silicon lube.

I have used petroleum jelly on my whole house filter for twenty years with no problems. Make sure canister filter and gasket are clean. A small amount of dirt can cause a leak
