Help please! Noticed around 3-4 days ago that my Neon blue striped mushroom was shrivelling up which it has never done in the months that i have owned it. Checked all parameters and everything is great so i thought it was just having a moment. Woke up this morning to just about everything in the tank looking quite sick. The normally happy elegance is closed and swollen, my frogspawns, hammers, blastos etc havent Opened and look terrible. On the other hand my bubble and leather are loving life. Parameters, light and temp have all been the same for months. The only thing i have moved is a fungia, Everything is how it has been for atleast 5 months. Ive done water changes and changed some filter media+ Added carbon but everything is getting worse.

What are your parameter numbers? Did you make any changes to the tank before things went south? What light are you using?
Nirtrate - 0
Phosphate- 0
Salinity- 1.025
Calcium - 440
Magnesium- 1290
Ph -8.2
Kh- 10
(Is there any i have missed?)
The only thing that i have done differently was i glued a frag to a rock- nothing has been glued before and added 4, 1cm long hermit crabs to eat some new hair algae. I have two illumagic blaze minis on a 160 litre tank.

Dumb question but is you refractometer calibrated, I only ask because mine somehow got way off before as I had not calibrated it for a long time as it had been so consistent and did not notice until I could not figure out anything else. When I finally checked the calibration I did it 5 times because I could not believe I was that far off.

if you have 0 nitrate 0 phosphate and 9+ alk you are starving your tank and need to feed more.

I can't give any insight on what might have changed to cause the issue, but something ticked everything off. My recommendation would be to do a water change and then add aminos. That always gives my lps a boost when they look unhappy.

Hi! Ive done a decent sized water change But things are still getting worse, even since posting this article. Any other ideas? They do normally get fed quite a bit, atleast once a day. i feed them individually as well as the tank as a whole. Normally a mix of copepods, brine shrimp and krill. This is all that’s available to buy in my area

Yeah the food usually contaminates more in my experience. The aminos like fuel or red sea ab+ are a cleaner way to give them a boost. I don't know anything about chemistry but the aminos really does wonders in these scenarios. When my tank is dirty, I definitely don't use aminos. It boosts algae growth.

This was my thought as well, but think this could be due to something more blatant.
Well with elevated alkalinity the coral will be attempting to build skeleton much more rapidly but then they need more food to maintain that growth. The other option is to lower alk to like 8 and maintain a low nutrient environment.
