Hello guys,
I'm new to this hobby, been spending hours watching videos and readings. And it's been 5 months since I setup my first saltwater tank, I would like to share some infos with photos and looking for some feedback or comments on the tank setup. It will be a Mixed Reef Tank.
I lived in South East Asia so I have access to almost every factory in the area so I started with cheap equipments (inital investment cost around us$1000) and planned to upgrade to better equipments in the near future. If I can keep this tank good for 4-5 years, maybe I will upgrade to a 2000 gallons reef tank since I have plenty of room for it
Tank Size: 210 x 50 x 50 = 525L (82" x 19" x 19" 140G)
Sump Size: 140 x 40 x 40 = 140L (55" x 15" x 15" 60G)
- Return Pump: Marine DC Pump rated 50w and 6000L/h
- Bio Media: Continuum Aquatics Bact Rox S-M-L (around 50L)
- Seachems PhosGuard 200ml in filter bag for silica absorption since I use only RO water (no DI)
- Skimmer AquaExcel 601 rated for 32w and 600L tank, connected to a CO2 scrubber
- NO3 Reactor with 200ml of Bio Pellet Continuum
- Algea Reactor holding 700grams of chaetomorpha algea
- Calcium Reactor holding 5000grams of media
- Jebao Marine UVC 11w with submersive pump rated for 400L/hour
- Testing: All Hannah test kit for kH, Ca, Mg, NO3, PO4. Other monitor device for Salinity, Temp
- Powerheads: 2x Marlin MA200 rated for 20.000L/h and 3x Ecoslim 6000 rated for 6000L/h
- Heating and Cooling controlled by single AC Unit
- Lighting: 2x Orphek replica DIY by me (actual power is 190w per led bar)
- Maintainance Schedule: 2x Dual shock and filter pad weekly changes, Sandbed vacuuming and 10-20% water changes every week.
- Current live stocks: Corals, CUC team of 30 snails, 5 small fishes. Feeding is very limited at 1 time per day
I cycled the tank for 3 months then started adding livestocks however all my fishes had been wiped clean by an ich outbreak so I started again but slowly. First I quarantined every new fish for weeks before adding to the main tank. Here are the parameter recently:
- Salinity: Marine DC Pump rated 50w and 6000L/h
- Temp: Continuum Aquatics Bact Rox S-M-L (around 50L)
- pH: 8.2 - 8.3
- NO3: Ranging from 10 - 40. Best 10ppm, Worst 40ppm
- PO4: 0.05 - 0.1
- kH: 9-10
- Ca: 400
- Mg: 1360
