Hello, I've been in freshwater for a while and I recently added reefing. I have a 15 gallon nano and a recently established Red Sea 170 but my post pertains to a tank I set up today. A 16 Gallon LifeGard 34"x10"x11"
I set this tank up to represent the Florida Mangroves/Breakwall of the intercoastal. I am looking for advice as to what species to keep with the mangroves. This will be freshwater then brackish then salt water slowly adjusting the mangroves to the salinity. I would like to keep some very basic corals as well as fish and inverts. Any advice on species that can transition from brackish to saltwater would be appreciated.
About the tank, I built an acrylic planter box with fluval stratum from a crystal shrimp tank breakdown that was approximately 2 years old. I understand I might have some pH issues from the stratum but I'm hoping that two years of water changes have pulled the low pH out of the substrate. Some small pieces of dead live rock have been added to conceal the acrylic planter box. Attached are pictures of the build. Substrate is Florida crushed coral. Lighting will be provided by a 60 watt 6500K full spectrum LED strip. No filtration plan as of yet. Last step will be a backdrop on the top fab'd out of acrylic to catch the R/O misters to catch "rainwater" as an auto top off to mist the mangroves. Will update when thats built...
