Probably dead, but why in the world would you put an animal in a tank like that that gets over two feet long, and can't possibly be supported with a sand bed in a typical hobbiest tank? That's got to be one of the irresponsibly sold animals in the hobby.

its gotta be buried somewhere under the sand if you want to shut off flow to look, but also best not to get livestock to have for a day (not really sure what it could be used for though). Always have a plan for rehoming a fish either with your own tanks or a friends tank, never depend on your LFS to take any livestock back

These guys like scallops are hit and miss. This may be a good time to lift a couple of rocks and seek it before it decays If it perished.
