Have you ever "accidentally" lit your tank with direct sunlight? WOW :)

Today was an unusual day in that we were home during the day and our picture window curtain was wide open. In the middle of the afternoon I looked up and my tank was "awash" in bright, albeit reflected from the hardwood floor, sunlight and it looked AMAZING! My wife and I were so amazed we just kept looking and AWING until the moment passed and everything was back to normal again. I'd say it was about a 20 minute event at the most.

I'm hoping to be home in the next couple of days around the same time and try to "recreate" it and be able to grab some pictures.

Anyone else have this happen and impressed with how GREAT the tank looks?

My tank would get direct morning light some times of the year. I have no idea whether it was beneficial to organisms, but I felt it looked much better lit that way, and would go for a natural spectrum lighting on my next tank. IMO, the blue look has run wild, unless your intent is to reproduce natural lighting on the sunken titanic.

Our tank gets some sunlight since it is relatively close to a window. It is neat to see what the tank looks like in its natural color!

My tank gets regular direct evening sun for about 30-40minutes. It’s always fun to see how things look more “natural” even when I run 10k halides.

Something that has fallen out of favor was people cutting holes in their roof and adding solar tubes to eliminate any need for lights or at least supplementing with actinics.

It was definitely a more natural look.
My dream tank is lit with solar tubes, supplemented for evening viewing and winters. I will likely never live far enough south that solar tubes could be a year-round thing.

Not a great representation, but daylight.
