Harmless featherduster or something bad?

I just spotted this large white curved tube attached to the base of my currently unhappy torch. I can see a feather intermittently pop out. Will this harm the coral?

Depends where it is. If it's on the skeleton, no. If its on the flesh, then yes that will bother it. That is if it's a feather duster. I can't really see a feather duster head, and the shape of what would be the shell looks nothing like a duster to me. Are you confident that's a duster? If not could you try to get a closer picture under white light?

It doesn't stick out from the corals skeleton but rather is attached to it as it coils around it. I have seen what appears to be a one cm diameter feather intermittently popping out. I wouldn't think it to be a vermetid snail due to the feather but not sure of the other possibilities other than a featherduster worm.

Yup, that's what I meant. If the thing is on the skeleton and is not bothering tissue, then it's not likely bothering the coral. The only 2 things that come to mind would be 1) feather duster or 2) some kind of barnacle. Maybe @ISpeakForTheSeas will have an idea of what it may be?
