Morning,

Have a the Hanna HI736 ULR checker, i placed an amazon order for some new reagents and notice that after i took a reading that that reagent that was sent is labeled HI713. The 736 gives readings in ppb but the reagent is for ppm. I do use the apex to enter the numbers which does the calculations to give me 0.28 but then when use a conversation calculator ppb to ppm get 0.092. which number should i go by? I know by proper hi736 reagent is the easy answer. TIA

I did some more digging within a kind of related question and it turns out The HI 713 is only for freshwater, and will not work on saltwater.

Thanks Randy, what would you say for my initial question, which reading should i go with? The post talking about hi713 being freshwater the poster says he called and talked to the folks Hanna that's why i went that way.

i did not answer the original question because I do not have a perfect answer. A number of folks have used them interchangeably and get the same readings, but I can imagine there may be scenarios where that might not always be the case. The 713, for example, reads up to much higher phosphate and may need more reagent than is needed for the range of the 736.

My suggestion is to get the right reagent, and then test some tank water using both. If they are close enough for you, then use either one.

people who've used multiple hanna PO4 reagents find that they are mostly interchangeable and read very nearly the same result when used in the non-recommended checkers.
So it may not be within hanna's stated tolerances to use reagents in the "wrong" checker, but it's generally close enough to use if you accidentally get the wrong one.
Get a correct reagent kit to compare and be sure.
