I'm new, to this reefing. It just seems like a never ending cycle of something new to learn.

However this was my lifeline I was so proud I could keep my parameters up and keep LPS. My first coral my little hammer and its grown but look at this. Its something I don't know I tried to scrape it off.
I'm very close to just give up with corals or even my tank itself. I'm currently self doubting my abilities with a marine tank.

Here's some pictures of the coral issue I'm having. And some random ones of my tank.

Any one else get so frustrated but enjoy it soo much. Any advice on what this is or how to help my little coral

To be honest the pic is not clear, there is something , but I can’t see what it is. The coral is receded on that side though. If there’s anyway to take a more clear pic it will really help

If not, can you describe it? Did you dip the coral? How long it’s been in your tank?

Hi, It's opens fine. It's is hard to touch. I haven't seen and opening or shutting
Thank you
I think they are asking if the “thing” opens and closes to determine if it is a mollusk like creature.

Can you take the coral out of the water for a moment under room lighting and take a clearer, brighter picture of the object ?

I’d like to try to help (many of us would!) but It’s hard to determine based on current pics.

Are we talking about this?

If so it kinda looks like a chiton but I need a better pic. They are like a low profile snail with super grip and super hard shell. They are algae eaters and almost impossible to remove, but generally harmless.

But again, can’t really be sure from current pics. Just a guess

Thank you for your response, here's another photo. I hope this is a much better result

These look like colonial hydroids.
But that whole area could be a sponge. You noted it's hard so maybe not a sponge. Black sponge is firm but not hard.

Also to note, the receding of flesh around that area. Looks like damage of the head.

Ok lol we are making progress. Now, this pic is clear but not bright enough. Can you redo with a flash or flashlight pointing at it, or in a brighter room

Sorry to be a pain :/

I think possibly a vermatid snail. Do a google search and see if that’s what you think it is.

Yeah, I was asking because it kind of looks in those first pics like there may be a bivalve (clams, mussels, oysters, etc.) on the side of the coral, but the newer pic has me doubting that.

As mentioned, any chance of a pic with some brighter lighting so we can see it more clearly?
