hi guys need your help....

I LOVE euphyllia species, particularly torch, frogspawn and hammer (in that order) so I don't know if wishful thinking is making me see things that's not there.

I picked up a Euphyllia today which was described as 'Wall Hammer' from a reefer who's shutting down his tank.

It's def a wall....but is it a Frogspawn? Have a look at photos and see what you think? The tips of its polyps are hammer-like (more so than my other spawns)but some not all are branching. I though branch polyps = frogspawn?

Kind of looks more like a frogspawn/hammer hybrid. But if i had to choose, looks more like a hammer than a frogspawn to me.

Never seen one so hard to work out....tips make me say def Hammer, but never seen a Hammer polyps that branch?

New Euphyllia it's a Spammer... No....Hamspawn...err...Frogmer? Lol

It just doesn't look like 100% frogspawn. I have branching frogspawn full of pimples? lol Since the tips looks more like hammer, i would think hammer. Growth could be because of parameters and/or lighting so.... difficult to say.

what is the diff between frog and octo?? thought it was just another name.
Me too, thought they were just trade names?

There is a variety of frogspawn E. Yaeyamaensis with thicker polyps but they tend to be way more pimply....that's what I think of as Octo?

I have a branching euphyllia that has hammer tips but frogspawn like polyps that brach. Got it from a lfs who said it was a hybrid they got, and have in a tank in the back..
I call it a frammer ☺

I just been googling Hammer Frogspawn hybrids and there are quite a few claiming to be hybrids, others saying it's a unnamed species/subspecies.

Love this one, it's polyps are larger than my frogspawn but smaller than my hammers, it's like a perfect mix of the two. Has some polyps that look completely Hammer, others frogspawn and a few hammer tipped but branching like frogspawn.

This photo shows frogspawns at top, hammers in centre and this maybe hybrid below.
