Hi Reef2reef,

I have a 2 headed hammer (currently splitting to 4), that has not opened fully in a few days. I am thinking because it is splitting? Anyways, tonight I saw very puffy tissue, that almost looks see through.

No, it's not bleached. My parameters are:

Salinity - 1.025
Nitrate - 25
Phosphate - 0.03
Alk - 8.0
Magnesium - 1250
Calcium - 460

I know my magnesium is low. Could this be why? Also, my heater failed a few days back and Temps got down to 73. Could this also be why? My parameters are starting to stabilize. It receives moderate flow and moderate lighting.

Thanks in advance.

I think its way too much of a coincidence that you had a heater failure just before this started. My bet is the temp swing stressed it out and it is protecting itself. They are pretty hardy so hopefully it opens back up soon and you can move on.

Okay, thanks. That's what I'm thinking too.

This happens to me occasionally although I haven't had it happen in a while and it typically goes away in a couple days. Did it get better and did you find out if it was because of the heater or not?

It still isn't opening all the way. I think it may be too much light, and then on top of the heater failing. I moved it down to the sand bed to see how it reacted; it still doesn't open well, but more than it did at the original spot. The thing that worries me is I am going on vacation this Saturday to next Saturday. Of course this has to happen right before I leave. I think I'm just going to leave it be in the sand bed, and keep my fingers crossed that it will still be alive when I get back.

That sucks! I doubt it will die and I hope it gets better for you
