I lost my hammer coral over the past year or so due to my 6 bar angel gradually chowing down on it. He continued with other coral, so yesterday I gave him away to a friend. I would now like to get my hammer coral going again. Question is, can I reuse the original stalk and graft a few small hammer coral frags into it, and hopefully have it grow back into the rest of the stalk, or should I remove it, and start from scratch? I kind of like it, so hopefully the grafting will work. (sorry for the dirty glass)

They don't encroach/spread when they grow so no it will not work the way you want. If you just like the shape you could glue something like a favia to it and it should spread over it.

Okay thanks. Not sure what I'd glue there without making it look odd.

Maybe if you cut the old heads off and use the old stalks to mount the new frags to using superglue of reef putty to join them together. I would thank that you could even use different hammers and make a garden.
Interesting idea, thanks!
