I had a few questions regarding this species as i did want to keep a freshwater tank and would like to have this type of eel (the colouring of this species is quite attractive to me)

I have had a gymnothorax tile before which was mentioned to be saltwater but did not do well in fresh hence I had to acclimate him to salt is it the same with this species? Incase if it is freshwater would it not do well in salt?

What would be a suitable tank size for him?

Do their colours change? I have seen the 8 to 12 inch juveniles at the store having more of a dark colour and does not look like the more brighter colours seen in pictures

Would this eel be suitable for a 40 to 60 gallon ranged tank?

How is it's temperament against actual pure saltwater eels?

I don't know a ton about them but I do know they are one of the few (if not the only) moray than can live in fresh, brackish, or salt. They normally spend their juvenile years in fresh, moving to salt to breed. They can get to 3-5 feet.....I wouldn't recommend a 60 for anything other than a juvenile.

Do they only breed in salt or can they stay permanently in salt?

Based on my reading over the years, no, they do not do well if kept permanently in full salt water. I have neve kept one though.
