Just noticed this growth on my hammer coral a couple of days ago it also retracts slightly when I shine light on it. Anyone experience something similar?

Looks like a new head starting to grow :) that’s a branching hammer and will grow MANY new heads. Here’s a picture of mine:

Looks like a Crack to me, what's inside looks like the same color as the flesh of the coral. It would expand and retract with stimuli.
I was thinking the same but the closer I get it extends off of the base and it wasn’t there when I purchased the frag a few weeks ago, but you could be correct I’ll keep a eye on it

That’s what I was hoping for but from the photos I’ve seen online I was unsure that was the case so many photos I always expect the worse

hi welcome to the reef, is it a crack in skeleton? sponge would not retract w light, i don't think??
@F i s h y @MERKEY @BighohoReef ??
Thanks, I don’t believe it is but could be wrong. Wasn’t there when I purchased it just slowly appeared within the past week or so. I was hoping that it was a new head starting to grow but it just looks so odd and I’m fairly new to the hobby so stuff like this always throws me
for a loop. My frogspawn has grown a couple of new heads since I’ve had it but didn’t look like this, not that I noticed anyways
