Hey guys. So I got a green slimer around 2 months ago. Noticed a week or so ago he was getting pretty discolored. Polyps still colored up but that was it except for the tips. I have always struggled with nutrients in my system. Last night I dosed some sodium nitrate. How long will it take to color back up? I ask because it already looks greener to me! Or is this the placebo effect?

Why did you think you needed sodium nitrate?

Well the tips should be white which indicate growth.

Randomly adding anything including nitrate is not a good idea.

Post all your parameters and also post a pic so we can see.

Also what you are doing to maintain your system?

Are you getting polyp extension at all?
Do you have other SPS or is this the only one?
One other thing, that bubble tip is awfully close it may be irritating it.

I’ve been keeping a close watch on it. It’s super tiny. My bta did a dual split so it’s about the size of a quarter only. That’s as far as it extends.
Yeah I have polyp extension.
that’s my only sps. The rest are lps.

Any Leathers or softies in the system?
Are you running carbon?
Do you know your par level of your lights where it sits?

Phosphate is on the high range and calcium is on the low range.
Low range yes. But won’t cause the color loss I’m getting. The phosphate weren’t this high till 2 days ago. The day before that it was .02. I won’t be using reef roids again. That’s what caused the pho’s spike.

Big fast spike in phosphates, not going to be happy with that.
Your .02-.1ppm is fine, but, should remain stable.
.39, maybe, but only if tank is very mature and always runs that level.
that spike was two days ago. It’s been discolored about two weeks. While I was waiting for the sodium nitrate to come in.
The phosphate spike may cause its own issues, but the current issue is unrelated

Sorry if my post came off abrasive. Didn’t mean to.
No worries, It’s not abrasive in any way.
Just wanting to ensure both nutrient levels, especially phosphate stay unchanged at all times.

I find lighting, more specifically T5’s are super in coloring up in stable chemistry.

Yeah. I’m sure I’ll take a hit from the phosphates. I just haven’t had any nitrates to feed it.

You posted a nitrate level of 4ppm.
That would be a nice number.
But in the first post, it’s zero, a true zero is really hard to get.
Or is it fluctuating?
Or maybe I’m not reading the post correctly.

My nitrate has always read zero. Then last night I received my sodium nitrate in the mail and dosed it. Now it’s at 4.
I get confirming results of zero with both the red sea nitrate, and the Hana, all in one nitrate

I would get po4 down below .1 max.
My sticks fade in color above .2.
All other parameters look good.
