So I been thinking. I need a better pellet reactor. the BRS one just isnt cutting it. at all. period.

it was barely even moving the pellets let alone tumbling them. this may have led to the fact that I was unable to process the phosphates.

So I bought one. $55 from Avast Marine. you get all the pieces machined and ready to go.

I got the one that handles 5 cups of media. Plenty for 1000ML of pellets. the next size up is 8 cups. it was super easy to assemble. took me maybe 30 mins total and I was very careful.

Forgive my ignorance, I still have so much to find out! What kind of pellets are those?
It looks good though.

I thought about getting one of these or the new jns alpha 2 biopellet reactor. Still wanna see some results of this on actual tanks. Some people use starter bacteria in their reactor. Is it gonna be in a dark place to discourage unwanted algea growth?

How long will that media last in that reactor? I have been using the seachem phosguard in one of the BRS reactors.

They look nice, How are the pellets tumbling in it? Do you have any channeling or does it get even movement? Either way much better than what you were using and a good price too.

as far as teh longevity of the pellets, I cannot tell you that as my experience with them is limited. I do knowthey are consumed by teh bacteria as it processes the nitrates and phosphates. I was getting a large ammt of Cyano growth due to phosphates in my tank. they were consistently testing at .03ppm with a hannah meter. I was looking for a place to blame that on and felt teh pellets were not working so I took them off and rinsed them and left them to dry. in the meantime, the cyano didnt solve and my phosphates went up to .13ppm on the next test a few days later. it was then that I decided to give the pellets one more shot. they were working, but not to their full effectiveness as my previous reactor didnt have enough flow to properly feed them.

that all has changed with this new reactor. I can now blow them thru the roof if I want to, but can also adjust them to a nice churn. The discharge from the reactor is 100% plumbed into the body of my Skimmer so I should be able to skim off the excess bacteria properly. I am going on about a week setup time so far. I am seeding with MB7 (all I have available to me now) but after next weekend, i will have a different strain of bacteria to add that will hopefully increase the pellet effectiveness.

as for the location of the reactor, it is just above my sump on a shelf. In theory, I wont get algae growth in teh reactor as it will not have any nitrates and phosphates for them to feed from. If I do get this, I plan to get some window tint and darken the body of the reactor.

I've been using ecobak for a week now on my Rick-built reactor. I'm also using GFO in a media bag for now just to keep my phates in check until the ecobak starts kicking in. My phosphate is reading .03 as well using the Hanna which it was at .07 just a couple of days ago. I saw your video and it looks like you have a good flow/tumble going through it.
