Just a bit of good news from the n00b corner--it won't be much to most of you, I'm sure, but it's like winning a battle round to me. The diatoms are collecting slower, AND the cyano is history! I used chemiclean and thought it didn't work, but when I did my water change this morning and blew the diatoms off the rock the stubborn cyano, which most of had turned pink, blew off too so I grabbed it with the turkey baster the best I could, and out of the tank it went. Also, my water's looked murky/cloudy/thick from the side, but that's looking better too and it was even before the water change.
Now the bad news--I DO have some hair algae growing at the top of the back wall, and on the wall of the overflow, and on a couple of rocks lightly as well. I scraped some of it off when the water level was below it, so I could get it completely out of the tank, but there's still a fair bit in there. Will this eventually go away, or should I be doing something else? I have a better amount of cleanup crew, thanks to Michael, and am hoping some of them or maybe my lawnmower blenny will munch on it. Fingers crossed!
