Hi, I’m getting coral in a bit, and I’ve decided on a couple for my all in one 20 gallon tank. I’ve chosen a coupe Zoas, a Duncan, and Ricordea. none of these have too much movement. I was wondering is there are any beginner friendly coral, that don’t spread like wild fire, but also have good movement?

A long polyp toadstool is fantastic! They're super hardy and don't need any of the considerations of a LPS

Says they have a Duncan.
Yuh, but he/she doesn't know they offer good movement. Just letting them know.

And if your duncans aren't offering much movement, not much else will either.

This is why duncans are amazing beginner coral, they can help you dial in flow.

While I agree that Hammers, Frogspawn, Octospawn, Frammers, etc, have great movement in a tank, I disagree that they're beginner corals. They're pretty delicate and susceptible to quite a few things...

The problem with beginner corals that have movement are their growth rate, they can explode and take over a tank quickly (Xenia, Anthelia, GSP, Leathers, etc). And your tank is too young for a Nem which would also add some nice movement...

The Duncan will have some movement to it, so if I was you I would maybe just stick with that for now and wait till you're a bit more experienced before delving into some of the more advanced corals. Unless you're willing to keep a close eye on and trim back the GSP, then that's about the only one I'd recommend out of the above...

The pipe organ corals that form the hard tube's are great becuase they (1) grow fast (2) add color and movement and (3) are very easy to completely remove if you want to. They are the large green coral in this pic.
