Adding hardwood floor. Buying a new aquarium 100 gallons. Been thinking about putting a hard wood floor over my apartment’s carpet. Always seem to spill some water onto the carpet while doing “everyday” tasks on my current tank.

Never heard of this personally, and everytime ive done it myself ive removed the carpet first. Not sure how wood flooring over carpet would not warp and be destroyed, let alone with 1000 lbs of tank and water sitting on top of it. I vote bad idea. very bad idea.

The way wood flooring connects to itself would never work with a soft flexible layer the width of carpet under it.

Just lay towels around where you work vs adding a layer that can trap moisture (in what sounds like a rental?)
you can grow mold to feed the tank. I make sure to trap as much water as I can in order to appease the fungal gods.
