Any salt used for marine fish tanks can be used for fish only tanks. There's no salt used for fish only.

I think he means a salt with not as much trace, which should be cheaper as well. Maybe something like Tropic Marin Classic sea salt or Aquaforest sea salt

I personally use Instant Ocean, but what you choose is mostly down to your preferences.

FWIW, I prefer normal IO to Reef Crystals for a reef. I don’t care for the vitamins other organics added to RC.
